Torture victim A.K. was detained and taken to the Kars Police Department Anti-Smuggling and Organized Crime (KOM) Division. Deputy Kars Police Chief Ercan Erdem and KOM Division Chief Erdem Koç insulted him vulgarly. He was hunkered down for hours rear-handcuffed until he was fainted and fell down. He remained in custody 20 days, was isolated for 18 days and interrogated 7 times. He had been given only a piece of bread and water during detention.
Chief Erdem Koç threatened him by putting his gun on the table and saying that something bad would happen unless A.K. admits what was told him. Although he told everything he knew, Lieutenant Murat punched him in the stomach for hours and shouted that “Be a Confessor!”.
He heard numerous screams of teachers and saw many bloody faces while under custody in Kars Counter Terrorism Division.
Chief of Anti-smuggling and organized crime branch Erdem Koç insulted all his values, swore his family, tried to break his arm saying “he should speak. Otherwise, he couldn’t get out”
Lieutenant Yakup Dülger and Lieutenant Hüseyin Azizoğlu threatened him with torturing his family.
The doctors ignored the wounds and bruises on his body, didn’t even listen to him and acted accompanied by police officers.
Teachers were handcuffed onto the bars and left without any blankets in the cold for days.
Chief Erdem Koç hit A.K.’s head to the ground with his legs recurrently during 20 days and didn’t let him see his lawyers.
On the last day of detention, a lawyer from bar association told him to be a confessor as well. Otherwise, he would be arrested. A.K. states that he still can’t sleep at nights, can’t forget what happens and experience psychological issues.
