A Turkish university student who was sexually harassed on Saturday by a police officer as she was being put into a police car by a male officer has come out guns blazing saying that the officer should be shamed.
The incident was caught on camera and has gone viral on social media but the Ankara Police headquarters has justified the officer’s actions by releasing a statement saying that Merve Demirel’s father is a member of the Gulen Movement which was blamed by Ankara for the failed 2016 coup attempt.
Demirel who harassed by the male police officer it should not be her, but society that must put the policeman to shame, in her interview with Turkish news portal Artigercek.
Social media reacted to the sexual assault as the camera clearly caught the violence and the policeman’s face.
Demirel and her two friends were arrested while they were reading the media statement on behalf of the Solidarity Association of the Arrested and Convicted People’ Families (TAYAD), calling for the release of unlawfully arrested people.
